Implementing the Strategy

Vision and Mission

The aim of UN-GGIM: Europe is to contribute to the more effective management and availability of geospatial information in Europe and ensuring that the work of the Regional Committee is aligned to the global UN-GGIM programme. At its thirteenth plenary meeting in June 2026 the Regional Committee approved and adopted a renewed strategy of UN-GGIM: Europe. The renewed strategy outlines the mission of UN-GGIM: Europe, which is to maximise the use of geospatial information in Europe for a safer and more sustainable world.

Regional Committee of UN-GGIM: Europe identified three key priority area that meet the strategic alignment of the needs and requirements of Europe within the global programme of the Committee of Experts; regional working groups cover these areas following a work plan approved at the annual regional plenary meetings.

Implementing UN-GGIM’s frameworks in Europe

This is a continuation of activities from the current work plan and focuses on providing support to European Member States to understand and implement the UN-IGIF in their national context.

Geodesy Supply Chain in Europe

This is a continuation of activities from the current work plan and will continue to act as the regional platform that facilitates coordination, promotes understanding, and ensures and effective European contribution to the global geodetic agenda.

Data in response to global agendas

This new activity incorporates some of the existing areas of focus from the Sustainable Development Goals Working Group.

Data Integration

This Working group dealt with the integration of geospatial data with other information.

Sustainable Development Goals

The main aim of this line of work was to maintain the active contribution of UN-GGIM: Europe on showcasing the added value of integrating geospatial data with other data to address SDG indicators.

Data Strategy and Policy

The main aim of this CoI was to contribute to the development of relevant policy and data strategies regarding the management and use of geospatial data to maximise its value in addressing global challenges.

Core Data

This Working Group focused on increasing data interoperability and harmonisation by proposing core geospatial data which meets essential user needs.
