Function
The Secretariat of UN-GGIM: Europe is responsible for supporting the effective and smooth operation of the organisation by carrying out its core secretarial, clerical, and administrative functions. This includes maintaining records, organising meetings, preparing minutes, and collecting and circulating relevant documents to members. The Secretariat reports to the Executive Committee as required.
Responsibility for providing the Secretariat is assigned to a member organisation through a majority vote at a Plenary Meeting and is not linked to membership of the Executive Committee. Any member wishing to assume this role must submit a proposal outlining how the service will be delivered and how the associated costs will be covered.
Service Level Agreement
The Netherlands, represented by Kadaster, takes responsibility for the Secretariat, the function of which is funded and executed by EuroGeographics AISBL, the European Association of National mapping, cadastral and land registries, through a Service Level Agreement originally signed in January 2015, and regularly extended.
Coalition of the willing
As of January 2026, a group of Member States (Belgium; France; Germany; Norway; Slovenia; Sweden; The Netherlands; United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland) have agreed to form a coalition willing to contribute to collectively cover the cash costs of the Europe Secretariat. EuroGeographics continues to cover the human resource cost.
