GEOSTAT updates

GEOSTAT 2 has delivered its final report proposing a model for a point-based geocoding infrastructure for statistics. Based on geocoded address, building and dwelling registers, it considers national practices and specific national challenges as well as the EU context.

The scope of the project included an evaluation of the fitness for purpose of the Generic Statistical Business Process Model in describing the use of geospatial data in the production of statistics. As a result, it also recommends possible improvements to better address geospatial data management in the statistical production process.

With the launch of GEOSTAT 3, work now begins on fostering better integration of geospatial information and statistics to enable more qualified descriptions and analysis of social and environmental data.

The project’s main focus is to develop the European version of the Global Statistical Geospatial Framework (SGF) for the ESS, taking into account existing conditions, initiatives and European and national frameworks.

The Eurostat-funded GEOSTAT projects focus on the integration of statistical and geospatial information, a cornerstone in the modernisation of official statistics.
