Twelfth Plenary Meeting of UN-GGIM: Europe
The Twelfth plenary meeting of UN-GGIM: Europe, held in Brussels on the 24th and 25th June, attracted 60 participants from 23 Member States and 12 international bodies and observer organisations. Notably, we welcomed the in-person participation of representatives from UN-GGIM: Arab States and UN-GGIM: Africa and received messages of collaboration from the Regional Committee of UN-GGIM: Américas.
Across two days of productive dialogue, participants reviewed progress on the Regional Work Plan 2022–2025, exchanged national experiences, including contributions from Armenia and The Netherlands, and explored key topics such as trusted data, data integration, resilience, and the evolving digital ecosystem.
Discussions also highlighted climate preparedness, GNSS infrastructure resilience, and the role of policy frameworks in advancing sustainable development. In addition, participants engaged with key UN-GGIM agenda items, including interregional collaboration, the Framework for Effective Land Administration (FELA), the United Nations Global Geodetic Centre of Excellence (GGCE), the UN-GGIM: Private Sector Network (PSN), and the contributions of geospatial societies.
The Regional Committee welcomed and adopted the revised UN-GGIM: Europe Strategy 2025- 2030, providing a clear strategic direction for the years ahead.
The Plenary confirmed re-nominations to the Executive Committee and welcomed Mikko Lindholm, James Norris and Neoclis Neocleous as new members.
Furthermore, the Plenary expressed its appreciation to David Henderson for his leadership and contribution to the Executive Committee of UN-GGIM: Europe, recognising his valued guidance and knowledge to the Regional Committee during his time on the ExCom.
Our thanks go to Eurostat for hosting the Twelfth Plenary and to EuroGeographics for the logistical support throughout the event.
