In memory of Frank Tierolff
It is with deep sorrow and profound shock that we have learned of the sudden passing of Frank Tierolff, Chair of the Board of Kadaster and Chair of the Executive Committee of UN-GGIM: Europe.
Frank was not only a dedicated professional but also a deeply respected and admired colleague, whose commitment to the work of UN-GGIM: Europe spanned over almost a decade. Since joining the Executive Committee in 2019, and most recently in his leadership role since 2023, Frank’s contributions were marked by a steadfast devotion to advancing the shared goals of the geospatial community in Europe and beyond.
Throughout his tenure, Frank brought vision, clarity, and energy to every meeting and every initiative. His passion for the power of geospatial information as a driver of sustainable development was evident in every word he spoke and every action he took. He was a tireless advocate for collaboration across borders and institutions, and his ability to unite people around a common purpose was truly exceptional.
What set Frank apart, beyond his many professional achievements, was his natural ability to lead with clarity, thoughtfulness, and respect. He brought a calm authority to discussions, consistently offering valuable perspectives and sound judgment. He had a notable presence in every setting, and his considered insights consistently enriched the work of the Committee.
The entire Executive Committee and the Secretariat of UN-GGIM: Europe are united in mourning this tremendous loss. We have not only lost a colleague whose leadership and dedication helped shape our community, but also a dear friend whose kindness and humanity touched us all.
At this difficult time, our thoughts are with Frank’s family, friends, and colleagues at Kadaster. His legacy will continue to inspire us, and he will be greatly missed by all who had the privilege of working with him.
His legacy of leadership, collaboration and unwavering commitment to the geospatial community will continue to guide and inspire us for years to come.
