Important milestone in the journey for global geodesy
The United Nations Global Geodetic Centre of Excellence was inaugurated on the 29 March 2023 at the UN Campus in Bonn, Germany. This is an exciting milestone in the journey for global geodesy. A journey that started ten years ago when the United Nations Committee of Experts on Global Geospatial Information Management (UN-GGIM) decided to formulate and facilitate a draft resolution for a Global Geodetic Reference Frame for Sustainable Development which was adopted by the UN General Assembly in 2015.
The aim of the United Nations Global Geodetic Centre of Excellence (UN-GGCE) is to lead and assist Member States and geodetic organisations in their efforts to collectively coordinate and collaborate to sustain, enhance, access and utilise the Global Geodetic Reference Frame (GGRF).
The UN-GGIM Europe line of work GRF-Europe will focus on implementing the aims and work of the Sub-Committee and the UN-GGCE in context of the Europe region.
